Bankruptcies

Bowman has filed for bankruptcy twice. The first time was in 1990, prior to being elected. In that bankruptcy, he owed about $20,000 to creditors. He filed again in 2004, listing debts of more than $132,000.

The second bankruptcy included a mortgage on his Northwoods home, with a balance of more than $76,000. He purchased the home in 1987, and evidently did a “cash out” refinance.

His bankruptcy listed a $5,000 tax debt to the IRS, and a $1,000 tax debt to the Missouri Department of Revenue, and a $150 lien for unpaid sewer bills.

But that was just the beginning. In the years since bankruptcy, Bowman has continued to stiff the state and the sewer district. His first post-bankruptcy tax lien came in 2009, for $1,900.

Another judgement was issued in 2014, for $3,200.

And yet again, in 2018, for nearly $2,400.

The Metropolitan Sewer District also sued Bowman several times. The first judgment, for nearly $2,700, was issued in 2012, and paid nearly a year later.

In 2015, Bowman was back in court, this time for a judgment of $1,100. Court records on the 2015 judgment do not indicate that it was paid.

The Sewer District filed against Bowman again in 2017, in what may be a renewal of the unpaid 2015 judgment. That case, for $1,770, was paid in 2018.

They filed yet again in 2020. That time, for some reason, they were unable to obtain service on Bowman, and dropped the suit.
